Cancers of the head and neck (H&N) are uncommon diseases. Each of the entities (lip, oral cavities, oropharynx, nasal cavities, main salivary glands, salivary gland-type tumors, hypopharynx, and larynx) that make up the H&N group has an incidence rate of less than 6 per 100,000 and a prevalence rate of less than 5 per 10,000. Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), which develops from the cells lining the inside of the nostrils, mouth, and throat. Typically expands to distant sites via direct extension, lymph nodes, and blood vessels.
